Ladies and Gentlemen, Distinguished speakers,
It is my honour to speak at such an event, for I am certain that we can hardly overrate the importance of the EU-Turkey relations and Turkey EU accession process. Mr Egemen Bagis has pointed out, and for that matter many others have as well, Turkey presents a bridge between Europe and the Muslim world. But this is not and can not be enough. Turkey can not be just a tool. Turkey should not be an object, but a subject and part of EU. Having this in mind, it is of utmost importance that Ankara continues headstrong and determined with the reforms that pave the way towards Brussels.
